Hi Tommy! I am so amazed about what happened to me today. I had a dream all night about being in Voloka, a town I had visited twice when I was about 7 years old(I have relatives over there but we were not in touch after revolution in 1989). For that reason, this morning I headed to the office and just typed Voloka into google search. I found a map and thought I would like to see more than that and clicked pictures and images. I was amazed to recognize the house in your pictures (the same house I have in my mind since childhood where a cat was chasing a mouse and play with before having it for dinner)and looked closer and there was a picture of Nicolai Paulencu (which I believe is my father's uncle -the name is the same and he looks the same age ). I can not wait to get at my parents house and ask dad if Nicolai is his uncle.
thank you for posting those pictures!! and forgive my unpolished English. |

Hi Tommy,
surfing the net for pics of my hometown Straubing, I came across your pic of the 'little gnome village' in the Bavarian Forest. I recognized it right away!!! This is a place quite deep in the Bavarian Forest & usually only known to the locals. What a strange coincidence! My parents used to take my brother and me there when we were little. I don't even have any pics of that place. So, thank you for giving me a chance to reminisce after so many years...and 'thanks' for making me homesick!! :P
All the best,
-Silke |

That photo of Dave Onofriechuk with cousins in Voloka, Ukraine is simply amazing.
Wilst surfing the net looking for information on Voloka where my family emigrated from I find a photo in the same village and a man who shares my name.
I would just like to say thanks for posting the picture and to anyone who may see this post that I am descended from House 171 per Voloka Greek Orthodox Church records.
Simply beautiful! |
