I am hunting for information relative to my surname: Dahlke and my Great Grandmother's surname: Zabel. They immigrated to the USA in approximately 1871. . .as their three oldest children were born in Bromberg (1868), Posen (1870), and Hamburg (1871). . .My great grandparents would go on to bring eleven more children into this world. If a person wanted to investigate their heritage from this region where would they begin as far as records, etc.? They were both German speaking immigrants. |

I am so happy I found this site. I used to live in Bydgoszcz on ulica Kopernika 10/4 until 1967. You brought back so many GREAT childhood memories! I would love to see a pic of my old street, and have been unable to locate one.

I am so happy to have found your site. I have for some years wondered what Bydgoszcz looked like as my late father came from there. I did try several times to track down his sister Bozena whom i was named after. She has twin Boys and she would probably be in her 80's now. Sadly we lost Tadeusz (my dad) in 1998 and last year we lost Margaret (His beloved wife and my Mum). We lived in Scotland till i was 10 but are in England now.
If anyone reading this can help i'd be really thankfull. Hoping to hear something soon. Thankyou |

I am very excited to at last find the home town of my ancestors (Rummel). For years I only knew they lived near Poznan. When I found the 1891 passenger list it mentioned they lived in "Bromberz."
Bydgoszcz looks like a beautiful place to live. I am proud of my origins. Thank you for having this website available.
