Mick I will miss your diary and your photos. Your insights into countries and their culture have been fantastic. Thanks for great reading, great views and great laughs. I think there might be a chance for change in career if you get sick of optometry .. travel writing. Look forward to seeing you at Xmas and hearing more! Love Liz, et al

Hi Mick, More time today to read more and see pictures. Like you I just loved Turkey... especially Cappadocia. We had 10 days and followed the guide books which recommended that women ( 2 dressed in trackies!) should key to Western Turkey. LIke the backgammon board, the incredible perception of time in such anold civilisation was amazing. Goreme was delightful.... and I well remember meeting a stray cat about 10 or 12 levels down in the underground city at Derinku(?) where some light globes were missing !!! WE decided 10/12 levels down was enough for us ! Thanks for the pictures and the stories. Fantastic! Love Kath

Hi Mick!I am very excited reading your Turkey stories! It really is an ideal backpackers destination! Try and get to Mt Nemrut if you can and wear warm clothes for the early morning sunrise.... the feeling of my fingers nearly falling off is coming back to me! And when you stay in Goreme look out for The Red Wine Bar! There is a friendly guy named Volcan to hang out with there! Talk soon, Annie

Mick, It's so exciting to hear about Turkey. We are green! Must say that Oludeniz has changed a little .. no great UK influence when we were there in 1990. Makes me feel old! Hope you enjoy or have enjoyed Cannakale and Ephesus and Pamukkale (?sp). All fantastic places that make white civilisation in Oz seem like a milisecond. Hope you are off to Goreme. Annie and I were attempting to explain it to Rachel - best described as feeling as though one has just landed on the Star Wars set! Enjoy, Love Liz, Andrew, Lucy and Charlie.

Hi Mick, It is ages since I have written, so a bit to catch up. It was great to see both Annie and Rachel at Tess's First Communion. both looking really well and very happy. Since then I have been to brisbane ( as you probably knew). I had a terrific time....Brisbane certainly has a lot to offer, and what better hosts could I have had ! I guess the highlight was a day at the Brisbane Writers Festival. I have already been offered ( and accepted) a bed for the event in 2007 ! I know I am a lover of festivals, and this expereince only confirmed that. We heard some great authors....on some of my "pet" subjects/passions. John & Jeanette are both enjoying life in B... there will be some lowering of that level of enjoyment when the temperature rises ! I have been home 24 hours, and as I go away again on Sunday to spend next week at Sale with Elizabeth, Amdrew, Lucy and Charlie ( on school holidays), I had best get some sleep now. Realize I haven't commented on Turkey... I would have been another person to encourage you to go there. My visit was over 20 years ago, and my interests would be different, but I just loved it !. You are lucky to have time to soak it in..Keep on enjoying it ! Love Kath

Mick, Great to hear about Greece. Can't wait to see the photos. Hope you get to Turkey. Andrew and I would jump on a plane tomorrow to revisit (Annie would join us too!). Heading into AFL finals .. pity the Tigers didn't make it. We had a gorgeous dose of spring weather last week and the days are getting longer. The coverage of Steve Irwin's death is huge .. I guess he has made a big impact in many countries. We were on a Quicksilver trip to the low isles just two months ago, where he was brought to after the accident. We're all off to Tess' first communion this Sunday and lunch at the Mortons .. looking forward to catching up with everyone (maybe including Rachel and Annie). Enjoy the weather while it lasts. Love Liz

Hi Mick! Thanks for the great travel and photo updates! Despite each travelling for months in europe I think we chose completely different countries to travel to! Its given me more ideas! We are a full house at the moment with Ben and Rach staying here now! Not as packed as the world cup house for you, but still fun! we had a welcome back cocktail party for Ben last week which went well! Keep having fun and inappropriate grumpy moments! love Annie

Hi Mick. Another great report. I loved hearing of the people you have met, and the welcomes you have received. It will all be memorable. Yes, a good idea to change your flag before you cross the Italian border.!!!!! VERY cold in Ballarat......this year winter began in Victoria at the beginning of May, so lots of overcast DRY weather. Ugh! Hear a man contributing to a discussion one day this week..... I couldn't believe it ! "All we need to do to get water is to dig a hole... and keep digging !!! Amazing attitude! Cheers.Mick Kath

Mick, Great to hear that you are enjoying Eastern Europe so much. The weather must be great for perfect pictures and swimming. We are off to Port Douglas on Saturday with all the Harrisons for two weeks. We are looking forward to some warm weather. We haven't seen Jamie for a few years or met his girl friend, Elena who lives in Budapest. So we are all very excited. Continue to enjoy Europe and hoepfully dodge the burglars! Love Liz
