Hi Mike et al, Just now getting online to see some of your travels. How GREAT!!! We know a little of what you're experiencing. We've been busy at lake and in Goshen. My mother died June 30th after a brief health issue. We're OK and working through everything. Enjoy the rest of your stay!! and stay safe. We pray such. Jan and Bob

Hey there Mather Family. I just received your post card, Mike. That put quite a smile on my face! Your stories are wonderful. I'm glad to know there will be more to come too. I hope you bring back some recipes; the food sounds terrific. The summer is ticking away so quickly and my lazy days of free reading and pool-lounging are fast-fading. Yikes. Hope you are all well. Take care. Kayla

Delicious Mike about Durban Tea Time

A friend of Annie, my daughter, calls me delicious Mike--which freaked me out and embarassed me at first, then i thought-- can I live up to being delicious Mike--an interesting possibility? My wife Carol chimes in now as she overhears me, that I can use some help on consistent deliciousness.... I have noticed the same openness and matter of factness about race and racism you find in Durban when I have been working in some places in South Carolina. Maybe the explicit 'in your face' nature of racist history in South Africa or Old South USA finds a gift later in helping people be with 'what is', having no room to pretend to themselves like its not there. Love to you all,Mike

It was wonderful reading your log. What a great visit with Dr. Vivencio. Oh that we could capture for the church in America, in particular the UMC, the positive, healing aspects of reconciliation.

Thanks so much for taking the time to post a journal entry as often as you do. We can close our eyes and in a tiny way envision what you are seeing and experiencing.

I think there's a powerful metaphor here!! "They call it two aquariums because the two oceans meet here. And because of the warmer Indian Ocean and the colder Atlantic Ocean the varieties of marine life are incredibly diversified!" In the same ways that these oceans merge to support the diversity of marine lives, so do our "worlds" merge to support the diversity of humanity. Thanks, again, for the vistas!!
