| Dear Kendra and Duane,
Thank God you two are alright! I know you said you wanted an Asian Adventure, but surviving (much less escaping) a tidal wave is probably a little more than even you anticipated!
It's doubtful I'll be able to sneak away to meet up with you guys while we're all in Asia, but I trust you two are having fun and making the most of your adventure filled honeymoon!
Take care, stay safe, and I look forward to seeing both of you when we're all back on North American soil in a couple of months. | | | | Pat Buthmann 12/27/2004, Beijing, China |
| Duane and Kendra,
Thank God you two are alright. While it was an Asian Adventure you were after, I'm not sure if this much excitement was what you were really anticipating.
I doubt I'll be able to meet up with you two while we're both in Asia, as I'm in Beijing until at least the 14th of January, and then a combination of Shanghai, Hong Kong and likely Sydney, Australia until late January / early February.
I truly hope that you have a safe remainder of your journey, and I hope you took some pictures!
Stay safe, and I look forward to seeing you back on North American soil in a couple of months!

| You wanted adventure. Tsunamis, earthquakes, and brushes with death definitely qualify! Seriously though, I'm extremely relieved to hear that you are not among the thousands of victims.
I never watch or listen to the news, but my wife happened to mention the catastrophe and she must have thought I was over-reacting a little when I turned and raced for the computer. Thank you so much for having the foresight to share your adventure with us. I can’t even begin to imagine how the friends and families of those without information must feel.
I hope the chaotic aftermath isn’t messing things up too much for you. Take care and perhaps use some of your remaining time to reflect upon why you are alive when so many others are not. Is it just luck? Do you have an unfinished mission? Is the real test in the days ahead?
Thanks again for being alive. Please stay that way.

| Thank goodness you are ok.
Remember the aftershocks, don't turn your back on the ocean. Try and keep your feet dry.

| Hi Kids, WOW! What shocking news - earthquake, tidal wave, etc.!! You'll certainly remember Christmas 2004. Christmas was great in PG - lots of snow but not too cold (unless you ask Betty - she's cold) Matheson's happy and looks so cute all bundled up with his toque on. Take care, love you lots. M and D
