On August 17, Sue and I expect to depart for a three-month experience of living in Malawi. We are scheduled to arrive in the capital city, Lilongwe, on Sunday, August 19 and travel to the city of Blantyre which will be our home until mid-November. We will rent a house and begin absorbing the culture of the "Warm Heart of Africa."
Some of our goals for the trip include: # A visit all circuits during the 2 ˝ months including sites where Belmont UMC has assisted with boreholes, irrigation, and church construction. # Preparation for the July 2008 Belmont VIM team # Learn about economic development, especially micro-finance projects. # See if it is possible to attend a wedding and a funeral and other cultural events.
This will be my (Herb's) seventh trip to Malawi and Sue's second. We have not been there longer than two weeks at a time. We are excited about the possibilities while recognizing that we may, at time, question our own sanity. The Malawi United Methodist Church is an dynamic and exciting movement. We expect to learn much from them. We hope and pray that we can be of some help to them through this venture.
This is our first experience in writing a blog so please bear with us. The next entry will probably be after we get settled in Blantyre. Now it is time to arrange stuff to pack. Zikomo quambiri. (Thank you very much.)
