Sounds like you are having a great time! Not sure I could cope with the hot weather, though! Life goes on here in Glos, and we are looking forward to the Easter break. Helen is off skiing this weekend - hoping for lots of snow! Much love Jane and Nigel

Looks pretty rubbish really doesnt it? who wants gorgeous views and amazing life changing experiences when you can be in egham experiencing such delights as washing up the dishes and going to the library for 1 and a half hours (the longest time i have ever stayed in a library by the way and it was with a friend and we were laughing the whole time and distracting the scientists from their work - they were not too impressed!)? looks blooming fabulous my love i hope it just keeps getting better for you! lots of love an hugs xxx

Hi Edmund, As you know, I was due to go to Buckingham Palace the day you left. I had low expectations, thinking that she'd just lent a spare room to some slimy media types to launch this Monarchy website. Anyway, as you know, I got out the suit and went. We entered through the front, pushing our way between the tourists. Policemen at 20 yard intervals escorted us across the gravel. That facade on the Mall in all the pictures is only one room thick, and you go through it into a huge courtyard. The proper Palace accommodation is at the back of this - presumably to avoid traffic noise. We went in, left coats etc, walked up massive red carpeted stairs, joined about 100 others in a big reception room. Footmen served champagne and delicious canapes from silver trays. Mingled with some people I knew. Avoided the creepy right-wing David Starkey. Then a door silently opened and flunkeys ever-so-discreetly formed us into a sort of queue. We all lined up - and there she was! A posh flunkey announces your name and you stumble forward, trying not to grin too foolishly, and she shakes your hand. We then went into a bigger room for more champers, more canapes, while Tim Berners-Lee, no less, told us why this website was the greatest thing since he invented the internet. She clicked the remote and the website was launched! More mingling, more champers. I lost track of herself - she's ever so tiny - but she was obviously circulating and chatting. Another flunkey came up and whispered that "she" would be coming over to talk to us. And there she was. We mumbled banalities, then I decided to tell her about you, and about keeping in touch electronically this blog website. "How lovely!", she said, and moved on. (I bet she told Phil about you that night over tea and Emmerdale.) By that time we were on to the passion fruit jelly canapes, so it was time to leave. Dad
