Hello Beautiful!!! Hey, I am a few journal entries behind.....ok lots.....so I skipped to the last one. Being an American I was most interested in the robbery (knives, guns, blood & guts, stolen wedding rings, etc) and the police action afterward. Good stuff. But for the next robbery go into more crime detail (who done it, obscenities exchanged, etc) and forget all that other educational / cultural stuff you are experiencing. Stay safe!!! Uncle Bob

Wow, I love your pictures -- looks like some amazing scenery/geography you have been seeing. Miss the journal entries - must be writing lots for work/school right!! Miss you!!

Haha, hi Allens, yeah, it's one of those Souths. Apparently the other American's ballots got sent to South Korea before being sent here, so you are not the only ones confused. And yes, Kimberly, I do know what an oribi is. It's a smallish antelope which is, oddly, almost never seen at oribi gorge. Of course, if you wanted me to be able to identify it on sight, I'm sure I'd confuse it with any on of twelve or so other small antelope they have here.

Hmm, apparently we should've gotten you a south african wildlife book before you went over there (lizard? bird? please tell me you know what an oribi is at least...) :) Anyway, jealous of your gorge pictures, though there's no way you would've gotten me that close to the edge. Enjoy your gates...those weren't my favorite either :P

Wow, I got vertigo looking at that picture of you on the 'hanging rock' -- Oribi Gorge looks gorgeous - look forward to hearing about the trip and something about doing some kind of "sailing" there - I suspect it might have to do with those ropes suspended over the gorge, am I right? Whew!!! Love you..........

G'day Miss Catherine. Well....Auntie K and I are about ...oh.... 6 weeks behind in reading your journal. So, did you make it to South America, or.....what it the South Pole? Well, I guess we'll find out. Hope you brought warm clothes. :) Uncle Bob

Thanks all for leaving messages. I'm glad to know that people are reading and that you're liking some of the pictures and the stories! In response to some of your questions and comments 1) I was a passenger in the car when I took the blurry pictures -not the driver. That would just be a recipe for disaster. 2) I wouldn't say I've been sucked into the college liberal environment as much as I would say that I fit in with the college liberal environment...my politics leaned that way even when I was in Brighton. But those of you who are McCain supporters will be happy to know that I found one South African who agrees with you (her reason? she thinks Obama is a Muslim). Okay, dangerous territory, so new topic: 3) the car is not cute; it is evil. Actually most people who know that I'm driving a Golf have told me bad things about it, noting its lack of power steering, need to be warmed up before it will go anywhere (I actually think there might be something wrong with mine. I have to start it twice every morning) and the fact that it is "the most difficult car to drive." That's what you get when you ask for the cheapest car available, I guess. 4) Yes, so far only 3 pictures of monkeys, due in large part to the fact that I never have my camera with me, but I'm sure there will be many more by the time I come home, so don't you worry.

You have some beautiful photos! Only three of monkeys??? You are totally slipping... Also, I have to ask how the photos out the car window are blurry? Are you driving and photo-ing at the same time? Hmmm....

1. The car doesn't look that intimidating...kind of cute...about the size and color of mine actually, you should feel right at home :) 2. I can't believe it took you that long to get a picture of a monkey...I would imagine there are some around Durbin somewhere.

Hello Bold and Brave Catherine, Phew! I just read all your journal entries. I am reminded of your previous travel writings and I see you have not lost your sense of humor. You are a natural writer and have your own unique voice. It is great fun to tag along -and I look forward to reading more about the people, politics and your continued adventures. (I wish I was walking with you and the old ladies aka "hotties" you mentioned)

Hi Catherine, Was glad to get another installment of your adventure. Sounds like the stick shift was really a challenge for you. We haven't talked politics, but it sounds like you have been sucked in by the college liberal environmrnt.

Just received your e-mail with link to your journal. I read them all. Got a little lost in the legal areas. I'll try reading again. I'm glad the Skype call worked earlier today. Give me a call whenever you have any downtime or just want to chat. The audio seems to work good. I have used the video and it also works good. I checked webcam cost here. ($40) I can send you one if you are interested.

Read three of your journals, starting with the most recent one first before I realized that there were three. Thoroughly enjoyed them, even backwards. It sounds like you are in for a real adventure, so keep your chin up and a smile on your face! oxooxo

I thoroughly enjoyed reading your journal -- can't wait to read more. You had me going with that first paragraph - I'm reading it going, "no, this isn't from Catherine" -- you always were great at hooking me!!
