Aisling, I love reading your journal, keep it coming! You're experiencing parts of Guyana that I've never seen and it all looks beautiful, even the bat on your 'nettin'! I'm rooting for your success, those kids will remember you long after you have left Guyana.

Hi Aisling, Your journals are wonderful. I'll certainly keep reading them. I lived just a few miles down the road from Friendship in a place a called Peter's Hall (Republic Park)28yrs ago Prio to that, in Kitty, Georgetown, near the seawall. Your observations on the uniform issue and the way the students address you are so familiar to me. This does teach discipline and respect. However, I bleieve there could be more balance placed in this effort. I believe there is much to be done for those students. You will have a positive impact on most of the students....trust me!!! 'Keep your chin' up as we'd say. Regards, Nicole

Read your journals and thought they were well done, however, one of your observations on the conduct of the children in the class has struck me as insensitive(??). Rather than producing "insincerity", I would think it reinforces discipline and focus for the task at hand (for the child), and instills respect for the Teacher, which is something totally lacking here in the USofA.
