Hello, I am a teacher too. I work in Mexico teaching science at a local school here. My tips for a starting out teacher are: 1. make and use a seating plan - tell them where to sit. 2. Never speak when anyone else is speaking in the class. You ask for quiet then wait. Maybe ask a second time in a louder voice if you have to, then wait. 3. The first few minutes of any lesson are vital to the tone of the lesson. Have the students do something - even if it is just write down a heading and guiding question. Sometimes a little quiz or game is a good start. Your positive reinforcement ideas sounds very good. Taking the time to assess them regularly is also very motivating for the students. Good luck, Peter
