DAY TWO: …Ricky and I got up early. Our departure time was set the previous night for 8:30 that morning, so we woke up and had coffee and watched the early-morning calm of the beach. There were people riding horses and few dogs, and the boats that were lit up the previous night were now beached and motionless. The ride down to Chumpon (three hours) from Hua Hin was nice. It’s really lush in the South and we got a little rain early in the trip but it cleared up as we drove and it was sunny by the time we got to the pier. We met up with the rest of the family in Chumpon and boarded a Catamaran out to Ko Nang Yuan (two hours). Wow. What an island. The sand was clean and white, the water a blue like I’ve never seen. There were bungalows in the hills on the outside two islands and the middle one was a restaurant and bar and sitting area and pier. The whole island was small. Only a few hundred feet separated the three. The permanent (mostly) sand bar was lined on either side by clear blue water. They say its one of the best places to go scuba diving. We arrived around three in the afternoon and immediately put on our suits and hit the water. That evening, Ricky and I joined the rest of the family for a barbeque on the beach. Fresh fish and vegetables and lots of spicy dipping sauces. Yum. We had rambutan, guava, and some other fruits I dare not even attempt to identify. It was an early evening.
