These past two weeks have been different than usual so I didn't get the chance to write in my journal much. Here is basically a summary of events.
On the morning of Tuesday Oct 4, I started feeling really sick. I thought it was just some more digestive problems, but it kept getting worse. Wednesday was about the same, still feeling sick, but assuming it would go away. Then Thursday comes around and I almost decided not to go to school, but I sucked it up and went. Half way to school I got a huge cramp in my stomach, so I was late to class. During our 5 min break, I finally decided to talk to the school director about it. Im glad I did because she told me that 20 students the day before had gone to the doctor with the same symptoms. We all had gastro intestinitis. Considering that the other 20 students were also on the school trip last weekend, Im assuming that we ate something there. Anyway, I had to wait until 230 for one of the professors to go with us to interpret with medical terms and such. Im pretty sure I had a fever because I was having hot and cold flashes, so I went to lay down on a couch at the school until we had to leave. I tried to sleep for the next four hours although I was woken up almost every 10 minutes by an excruciating pain in my abdomen! Finally, time to go, there were 5 of us altogether. We got our prescription and I went home and slept the rest of the day and night. I was also put on a strict diet of white rice, yogurt, bottled water and eggs for 2 days. I was going to go to Madrid this weekend, but that didn't work out. That wasn't fun.
On Saturday, Emily and I went shopping in the morning and stopped by the tex mex restaurant to get some chips and salsa afterwards. We ran into a guy from London who couldnt speak spanish, so we helped him ask the bartender if they were showing the England soccer game later. He sat down for a while and talked. Then, we all met back up around 6 to watch the game which would determine if they went to the world cup or not. He brought some friends...a girl from amsterdam and a guy from sweden. After we watched the game we went out to La Carboneria where they have free flamenco shows. We got a table outside in the gardens. Randomly, I hear my name being called from another table. I turn and see a friend from high school, Jack O'Brien. Apparently, he is studying in Madrid! Really big coincidence, considering I was supposed to be in Madrid this weekend!
Oct. 9
Sunday was great! It rained for the first time since I've been here! It was beautiful, so I stayed in and did homework as usual.
Oct 10-13
Another normal week except we had a holiday on Wednesday for Dia de la Hispanidad (basically Columbus Day). It also rained all week, which I really enjoyed! It's starting to look more like winter which for some reason makes me really happy! So, Wednesday I met up with James (the british guy) and we walked around for a while and ended up playing pool at a bar with two other american boys. Later we watched Spain beat San Marino for their spot in the world cup. Thursday I had a test in my European Union class, yuck. I also got a really cool opportunity helping a friend of the school's director. She needs someone to help her kids with their English. I go Mon, Wed and Thurs for 2 hours to just talk with them and help them with their English homework. They are SOOOOO cute and I love the family. The girl is 11 and the boy is 9. They live really close to me and it's really cool being able to see an actual family instead of just a senora. So thursday I went over to their house to do all that.
This weekend is my rescheduled trip to Madrid which you'll have to wait until the next update for! I hope you all are enjoying the changing season! I miss you all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
