This marks the beginning of my attempt to maintain a website of stories and photos of my year in Strasbourg, France. So far I've been here almost 3 weeks, so I'm starting to get into the swing of things, but the homesickness and culture shock are starting to set in now that the "honeymoon" phase is starting to wane.
I am living in an all-girls Catholic residence called La Maison de l'Etudiante, and it is really great. There is absolutely no religious pressure, which I was a bit worried about, and the community is so great and supportive. A few difficulties however: our fridge space is limited to each person having a tupperware container the size of a shoebox, and the TINY washing machine that takes 2.5 hours per load. But I am so excited to have a sink in my room!
Other than that, I've been slowly integrating myself into life here. I've joined a hiking club at the unviersity and am testing out the city's triathlon club as well - my first training session with them was last night and it was definitely a challenge!
Two weekends ago I went to Paris to write my LSATs - stressed and alone and soaking wet are not ideal conditions for visiting the city of lights, but it was still very interesting and beautiful, except for being molested twice in three days on the metro system by dirty old men! I've also added some pictures from my short trip to Basel, Switzerland to visit my Dad who was there for a conference for just one day. It was so nice to see him, but way too short!
Anyways, I hope you enjoy the pictures, and please write me messages. It's lonely trying to make a new life in a foreign country, and you'll help keep me motivated to keep the site up to date!
If you'd like to write a letter or send a care package (I promise to bring back exquisite chocolate for those who do!) my address is as follows:
Christie Kneteman #207, Maison de l'Etudiante 7, blvd de la Victoire 67000 Strasbourg FRANCE
Take care and I hope to hear from you!
Christie
