I've been keeping a pretty low profile lately, and spent the past week at Tanote Bay on Ko Tao, which is a small island on the gulf side of Thailand.
I was in a pretty remote area of the island, which was only accessible by 4-Wheel drive trucks. The area is known for diving and snorkelling.
I spent most of my time snorkelling, reading, sitting in a hammock, drawing, and meeting people. For the first few days, I kept to myself, and interacted only with the fish in the sea and the ants in my bed. After a while, I met an interesting Canadian guy who is passionate about 'lucid dreaming'. That's basically being aware that you're dreaming while you're asleep, then changing the dream. I also met a sweet British couple, who were a lot of fun to hang out with.
The view from the resort I stayed at was incredible. I was at a quiet beach, and there were rocks not too far from the shore. The coral, fish, sea cucumbers, clams, and other animals were fascinating and beautiful.
My next trip will be to Burma for a day or two, to renew my 30 day tourist visa. From there, I'm going to head back to Thailand to more beaches. My travel consultant (Hi Elliot) suggested I volunteer in Ko Phi Phi (http://www.hiphiphi.org/), so I'm going to possibly do that. After I'm sick of beaches (does that happen?) I'm going to go to Cambodia for a few weeks. Well, that's the plan as of now. We'll see...
As an aside---it was recently brought to my attention that my Wonderland Trail entry was deleted. I'm not sure how that happened, but that's a bummer.
