And the guiness world record goes to...

2005-09-31, Pai, Thailand

Something humorous I forgot to include in my entry for Pai. A few days into my Pai stay, a new world record was set by our friend and hero William Cowan for most vomit evicted from one person in one night!

(Wil, please forgive me for this, but the story must be told)

After a night of drinking and other activities the guesthouse retired for the night. Wil hadn't looked great when he went to bed but didn't say anything about not feeling well. I was downstairs with Chessy having a chat when we heard a gentle burping sound from upstairs (Wil's room) that resembled a belch one has after a sip of beer. Truly mystified by the noise I crept upstairs to listen closer only to hear what sounded like someone dumping a bin full of water on the colligated tin roof out side Wil's window. It was only when we heard the coughing noises that we realise someone was being ill, and that it was in fact Wil. We burst into hysterical laughter for the duration of the unpleasant episode then opened his door to check on the poor fella. Wil was propped up against the window frame with his head sticking out over the roof. When I asked if he was ok he grinned and replied with,

"Ahh, that's better!"

Again Chessy and I were in fits of laughter! Wil didn't seem to mind and gingerly had a drink and got back into bed.

Chessy and I eventually calmed down and went to bed only to be disturbed again by the strange burping noise coming from upstairs. The strange burping noise was again followed but a thunderous battering of liquid on the tin roof of the guesthouse. This in-turn was again followed by several loud and uncontrollable bursts of laughter from Chessy and I, and more thunderous bursts from Wil as he gave Ralph a good and loud talking to!

Wil maintained he felt quite good so we gave him a drink and filled the bin from downstairs with water to rinse the roof of Wil's little chat with Ralph. (Incidently it took the whole bin to clean up the mess). After a few more quiet giggles I again went to bed only to be woken up within a few minutes. This time Wil managed to make it down to the bathroom. This was a lucky thing as things were turning for the worst. The poor fella's stomach was turning on him too. There were a lot of stage noises coming from the bathroom at this stage, not that I could hear very well over my own drunken laughter!

This pattern went on all night for poor old Wil, and halfway through the night I had stopped laughing and started worrying. He was up every half hour or so and was struggling to keep even water down.

You'll have to ask Will exactly how long it all lasted, but I can say that he came out of it 4 kilos lighter and couldn't eat properly for several days.

Now I know you think I'm a bad friend for finding this so amusing, but it really was incredible to see(and hear) how much of the stuff came from him! And besides which, Wil took it in very good humour and had a joke about it afterwards.

All in all a stellar effort for Wil and the funniest thing I've seen since Deano had a lit shot of Bacardi 151 without blowing the flame out, and spat fire all over himself and the bar! (nothing will ever top that one).

For more details as to what exactly could have prompted Wil's little episode(s), drop me a line via email and I'll give you list of possibilities...
