We're here on the isolated Perhentian islands off the north east coast of Malaysia. Electricty is generated with diesel powered generators and the only place to go is the beach where the taxi boat dropped you off. It's quite the feeling of getting away from it all.
Contrary to popular believe, alcohol is readily available on this strongly muslim island ( we'll find some use for the liquor we took along I'm sure ). Even less stressy is how the people don't badger you to buy their stuff.. beginning to understand the destructive effects of tourism and being over commercialised!
Considering 99% of the islands visitors come here to dive or snorkel I'm kinda seeing the advantage of being able to swim ( another one for the list ). Maaike is taking a try dive with Jordie, I think he's probably good at diving judging by his fit and tonned appearance ( perhaps its just the tan! ).
Tomorrow we're going snorkeling, yep I'm going out of my depth again but this time literally. Maaike assures me all will be fine with a life-jacket! He who dares...
