Farewell to the East
I woke up really early this morning because I fear losing my plane....but I still have so much time that I am going to fill everyone in on my adventures from yesturday.
So, I woke up yesturday having the best sleep of the trip (due to the great 2 hour soak in the Turk Baths) and I was ready to conquer the day! My whole morning objective was to head back the the park that surrounds the Baths to sit and journal for a bit....WEEEEELLL.....Katie missed her tram stop and ended up going to Margrit Island Park instead. I must say that it is a nice park, right on the Danube....it doesn't get much better! I did my writing and people gazing for about an hour and a half, before I decided to go check out Parliament close up. Somewhere between the park and Parliament I lose my map...no worries, I have walked this city and I know where I am! I pass the big Parliament building in awe, but couldnt' go in....not a patron day or something. This is where I get lost, but the good kind of lost! I am just meandering along, checking the scene out when I come up on this movie production. Normally I wouldn't have paid that close attention but for the fact that I recognized the characters. Wouldn't you know it was Hagrid and Harry......right there. I know what you are thinking and no it wasn't the Harry and Hagrid we all know, this was a Hungarian Hagrid and Harry! One of the set crew personal got close enough for me to ask, I took a gamble in her knowing English....JACKPOT......she said that they were one of the productions in the running for the Hungarian Harry Potter series.....I think that is what she meant....she said there were 11 already. Goodness!! I took pictures of course and watched the process for awhile.
I then ran off to get lost some more in the streets of Pest to see if I couldnt' walk up on anything else exciting! By this time the stomach starts to growl.....of course. Wouldn't you know it though I walked up on what seemed to be a very popular chicken shack with the locals....I did what every other self respecting tourist does....I got in line!! I got a whole meal (chicken sandwich, fries and a coke) for $2.50 (559 Forint)!! I tell ya that just doesn't happen where I am from!
After lunch I decided to seek out a map and figure out where I was, Pest is a big place and I could end up where I don't want to be very easily. So I headed down to one of the metro stations to look at the map.....I wasn't too bad off.
Later, after going back to the hostel for a bit I charged out to find some things that I had seen the day before to buy. I ended up hiking all the way back to Mathias church to sit and enjoy the sun setting again.....and to journal again. It is so cool that my book is almost full. My journal is my pride and joy on this trip. I just can't believe that I have nearly filled an entire book about this trip and what I think. It is a completion of something important!
My que to get up and leave was when my back started to ache and my bum fell asleep. I packed up my things and decided to take the metro back to the hostel, to save my feet from a very long trek home. THe hostel was booming with people....Z and Tani were cooking Chinese dumplings and they offered me some. It was really really good!! We all hung out the rest of the night....watched a movie..SIN CITY......anybody else seen it, because it is a interesting movie.
I depart for England/Ireland today......the last leg of my journey! Chuse (Cheers in Hungarian)!!!!!!!!!!!
