It's Saturday morning and a year ago we were tailgating, but this morning we're eating Betty Crocker muffins in China! It's quite unreal. We just went for a really crazy bike ride from the Scott's house through the old Chinese village which is about 1/4 mile away, and is old shacks where people are working, selling things, sleeping, and doing laundry. It was quite fascinating. About five minutes later we were in Beverly Hills, China - a huge community of enormous mansions, complete with a golf course. Marty mentioned to us as we were riding by these mansions that she heard Shanghai has more millionaires than the United States. After the bike ride, we met up with some GM people who were just settling in and visited the Jinmao Tower - the 4th tallest building in the world, the Bund - a promenade along the Huangpu river with great views of the Shanghai skyline, and walked around Nanjing Lu - a brightly lit shopping street. The Scotts' driver then took us to the Shanghai Centre for a Chinese acrobat show. The show was incredible and we couldn't believe how uniquely talented the Chinese acrobats are. Following a late dinner at an Irish pub, we listened to the depressing Michigan game on CSTV.com. ESPN Gameplan wasn't working so well on the Chinese government monitored internet, but the audio broadcast worked perfectly. A sad end to a wonderful day. At least we were able to watch Agassi reach the finals in the U.S. Open while we listened to Michigan turn the ball over and blow the game.
