It’s hard to say that really EXCITING things happen here on the boat, but it does have its moments. Yesterday I had my first marine-life sighting in the form of flying fish. Fortunately for me they were rather small and not too close to the boat. When I first heard that there were flying fish my immediate reaction was “I hope they don’t jump onto the boat!” (although I will say my tolerance for fish has increased considerably since this trip began). They were really neat, though; they looked like big, silver insects and would just appear out of nowhere then dive back into the water after a few seconds. It was particularly impressive when they would surface in schools. Very cool, but I’m still holding out for a whale or giant squid.

I’ve decided to take a creative writing class on top of my other classes, which I am very excited about. It will be a lot of extra work and I won’t get any credit because technically I’m just “sitting in”, but it was too good of an opportunity to give up. Crazy, I know…I will probably have to pass on a few pub nights b/c of the work, but I figured the $ was better spent on books than beer (eh, mom and dad?)

Next entry: oi from brazil!
