I guess this will be my final update from Morocco unless something massively exciting or life changing occurs in the next 12 hours!
Firstly I want to publicly apologize for calling moroccan food bland, I guess we were just eating in all the wrong places! The restaurant run by women was incredible, we had a chicken and pumpkon and a lamb and prune tajine which was honestly one of the best meals I have ever eaten. We also met a charming man from Nice on the next table along, who despite being a self professed corporate *anker, kept us entertained all evening. The restaurant we ate at the night before had plastic table cloths and a group of guys who put on ¡¥Girls just wanna have fun¡¦ which they proceeded to bop to followed by Akon¡¦s ¡¥lonely¡¦ on repeat so it was certainly a massive step up in class too!
This morning we finally got up early enough to get to the tanneries where they die the leather; The stories we had heard of the poverty there couldn¡¦t really be seen, however there were a lot of kids doing manual labour which is always sad to see. We also heard that the small was so bad it made people vomit but neither Verity nor I really smelt it at all! We walked back through the souks back down to Jemaa el fna, the main square here which is particularly fun to try and pronounce, especially when anyone who speaks French doesn¡¦t understand our French accents or deliberately makes us suffer for not speaking fluent French. We had luch at a Halal meat Mcdonalds which was relatively unexciting and tasted pretty much the same as every other mcdonalds in the world.
After we went to the Bahia Palace where P Diddy once had a party! We walked around singing hip hop songs and doing little dances in various parts of the building. It was very beautiful but was also enormous and became a bit same old after a while, perhaps we are just very uncultured but we did get a bit bored aith the beautiful mosaics (once you¡¦ve seen one, seen them all really), the antique fireplaces (same as) and the very ornate hand painted window shutters (what is the point one has to ask?). Nevertheless we got some great photos of us pulling various obscure poses around the building, we also got very lost at one point and ended up doing the whole palace again, perhaps this explains the sense of repetition which we were plagued with?!?
After the Palace we got in touch with our British heritage by going to the hotel which Churchill used to stay in in his later years, I also did this becuase I am a very dutiful daughter and my Daddy has been reading a Churchill biography recently. This has led him to the conclusion that Churchill is fabulous and he now talks about him a great deal. I got some pics of the scenes Churchill loved to paint and all the places he hung out. I have had no battery on my mobile phone for the last couple of days so couldn¡¦t call to tell Daddy I was going on a Churchill pilgrimage so I have documented it through the medium of photography. The place itself was incredible though, with an enormous very famous garden area and an amazing pool which we couldn¡¦t use because we weren¡¦t guests. This was like torture for us! The weather is still hot hot hot and there we were, boiling hot and sweaty, looking at this beautiful and cool swimming pool which we couldn¡¦t use... no fun at all.
We got back to the hotel and watched Arabic weakest link because we now have a telly in our room. For dinner we went to the main square and had food from the stalls there. I had stupidly taken my malaria tablets on an empty stomach so felt terrible but the food was great, sausages in particular were very special!
So we fly back home in the morning. I start work on Monday and term starts in 2 weeks so I guess this truly is my last night of holiday for the year ¡V ARGH!
