2005-08-21, Irkutsk, Russia

I jumped the fabled 'Trans Siberian Express' from Yekaterinburg to Irkusk. About a 60 hour journey . Luckily I was sharing a cabin with Marc and Natalie, a French couple also starting a year of travelling. The time passed easily chatting, drinking beer, playing chess and dominos in the dining car, eating pot noodles, sleeping and oh yeah checking out the incredible landscape. Forgot about that bit.

Irkusk has a sense of Asia. The landscape outside of the city is just what I'd been expecting in Mongolia. Stark and incredibly dramatic sweeping horizons. But its the food that reminds you - this is Russia not Asia. Enjoying food not yet permitted.
