Like Irish theme bars the world over 'The Old Irish Dublin Bar', Yekaterinburg has no Irish staff or customers. I suppose I shouldn't have been surprised to find one in Siberia. I later came across three in Mongolia. What can stop the onward march of the Guinness corporation and Irish globalisation?
I know the rule reads 'stick to authentic local bars when you travel' but I was weak. Hoping to find a friendly english speaker I discovered instead that the Guinness was 4.00 quid a pint?
With my usual freak luck, my one full day spent in Yekaterinburg was also the city's big annual birthday celebration! There was live music stages and a big scale party right across the city, despite the 24 hours of rain. These are siberians remember, the only people rained on more than the Scottish.
