and so i was baptized

i have a new name

Tamaffa

it's a hausa name, nobody really knew what it was until the old guard

nodded wisely and said "ah yes, it's 'la croyance'" belief.

there was a big shindig at our place, lots of people who didn't know us came, about 200, there was dancing a traditional "male fashion show"; they get all decked out and bug there eyes out and show off their teeth. and dancing and talking into the night, in french, smatteringly with the nigerien boys that hung around.

today we had nigerien guys take us to le petit marché(french keyboards are great for accents, bad for the a...) le grande marché et "the smelly marché" where the bats frequent...food seems pretty abundant despite the famine, but we are in the city.

the group of girls are great, we're re-learning our names...

the compound/apartment is cool, we all have our own rooms with simple beds, big closets, fans with settings up to 5 and princess like mosquito nets

it's hot and sticky, but not as much as we expected.

the showers are a mere indentation in the bathroom near the sink, the perfect temp...

we're meeting the dean of the univ. that we're not going to tom.; we heard about the guinea worm that burrows out of skin today.

i saw two camels and 25 goats strapped to the top of a truck, not at the same time...i'll have to think of other drastic differences, right now it seems surprisingly commonplace, probably 'cause i'm so overstimulated

the sand is copper

the stores are simple

the fabrics are wildly bright

bon nuit pour maintent

tamaffa*lily
