Our last night in Windhoek was quite an experience! An overland bus with 22 people on board arrived. That was fine--only problem is they are doing repairs on one of the bathrooms and so there was only one toilet/shower for all of us! We of course got up early and got out of the way. Packed up and got a taxi to catch a minibus to Tsumeb. That was quite an experience. You arrive and are suddenly surrounded by touts trying to get you to get on their bus. Once a bus is full they will leave---fortunately for us there was a lady that keep the touts at bay and told them they would have to wait their turn to talk to us. We got on the bus in the last two seats==Robert in the back without much leg room. I sat on the corner of a seat--giving up my leg room to put our bags down there. It was a four hour ride ==two stops by road blocks --one of them they were checking to make sure there were not too many people on the bus--there were but only about 4/5 too many, and they were small children. Made it to Tsumeb and called Mousebird Hostel and they picked us up, we pitched our tent, took nap .
Afterward went and bought groceries /rented a car for our safari into Etosha Park for four days. It is very expensive, but cheaper than going on an organized safari with a guide. More later. We know now that we will camp in a fenced area next to a lighted waterhole and see tons of wild animals. Away from camp along the park road, they have fenced toilet stops. We hope to be able to see Mars while we are out there. Wanda, we wish you could clue us in on all we are seeing sky wise here. According to what I (Laura) looked up, the Southern Hemisphere should have a good view.
Should be back here in Tsumeb in four days!
