Motorcycle Diaries in Nanongtum

Inspired by Che Guevera, I finally learnt how to ride a motorcycle for the first time! Yahoo!!!

On the way to the "waterfall", Sunny taught me how to use the clutch, brakes, accelerator, all in THAI and I understood very clearly!!! Such a breeze to ride on a well paved road that is straight, with no helmet and no traffic! Only 1 or 2 motorbikes passing you in 10minutes...other than that, you're KING of the ROAD! Loved the feeling of zipping around on the nifty bike w/o a helmet...the wind caressing your hair and you can have a conversation with your pillion rider at the same time. The best thing is, no exhaust fumes...no pollution...just fresh country air.

Expecting to cool off in a waterfall pool after a sticky hot day in school, I asked if I should change into my swimming costume to go to the waterfall but Sunny said no and raised her eyebrows at the same time. Hmmm...I later understood why cos when we arrived there, she told me it is dry season and there is NO water in the waterfall!!!! Duh!!! Another case of miscommunication.... So instead of cooling off, we sweated it out by climbing 666 steep steps up along the water pipes(which I had earlier mistaken as the "waterfall" from afar). The view over Nanongtum reminded me of the flat pancake rice paddy field scenery I had seen at Vietnam, near the Cambodian border. With some mountains in the background, it was green everywhere...very pleasant indeed.

Tired from the climb, I tried unsuccessfully to start the engine of the bike for the return journey. No matter how hard I push down the pedal, it just doesn't start!! Sunny started for me and off we went...straight to the bushes! Wahahaha....instead of braking I accelerated and nearly went into a big drain. Whoa...women are a road hazard indeed...now I understand why...hahaha.... Tipping over slowly from the sudden brake, both of us were weak from desperate laughter and our legs were pinned under the motorbike. My first accident on the same day I learnt how to ride a bike. I hope Che did better than me in this department.

Sunny cleverly manouvred us out of the bumpy muddy n pot-holed dirt path to the smooth tar road, where I took over (of course). Without any more accidents, we reached home in 1 piece!!! Whoohoo! At home, Meh was cooking steamed kampong chicken(taken from the grandfather's farm yesterday) with lemongrass for dinner...it was simply delicious beyond what I expected...maybe it's all that farm running around that makes the difference from a Cold Storage frozen chicken. I'm still amazed at what delicious dishes can be cooked from a basic kitchen like that...some pics attached here and you can start scratching your head like me too.

Had some funny Vietnamese springroll wrap for lunch today...P'Pui bought it from Udon Thani, where this ready-packed Viet dish can be found. Raw bananas, baby starfruit, frozen meat something(dunno what issit and dun want to know), lots of green vegetables, some sweet chilli n peanut dip and wafer thin springroll wrap. It kinda resembles some springrolls I've eaten in some Viet restaurants BUT really, I haven't eaten it in Vietnam when I was there at all! Bizarre...

Enough about food...Im constantly hungry and eating...
