Our Day In Interlaken
WE got up tired and had a lovely breakfast and hot chocolate and met Chris`s wife Ursula and their lovely dog Monty. Walked throughInterlaken to the Interlaken Ost (East) station and boarded the boat to cross the Brienzersee lake this time to Brienz. From there we caught the train to Meiringen. From there we caught the MIB (Meiringen-Interkirchen-Bahn) or (Men In Black as we called it). We got off at Aareschulcht Ost station and walked through Aare Gorge for 45 mins, saw a lovely waterfall and the water rushing through the gorge.
We ate lunch at the restaurant. Afterwards Rak tried to go to the toilet twice (at half a Franc each time) and both times it wouldnt let her in so she decided to go to the disabled toilet instead. We walked to Aareschlucht West sation and caught trains back to Brienz.
We looked around Brienz at nice wood carvings, however most shops were shut as it was Sunday. We caught the train back to Interlaken Ost where we got on another train to Lauterbrunnen to suss out our journey for tomorrow as we are staying at Camping Jungfrau there. The place is right underneath a big waterfall, very nice as it is in the shadow of the Alps and Jungfrau itself. On train back Rachel got her coat stuck to the seat and we had a mad few mintues trying to free her before the train headed back the opposite way. Just doing it in time.
We got the train to Interlaken West and decided on Chris`s (from the hotel) recomendation of a place called Steinbock which is a pub that specialises in Swiss cuisine. After getting soaked in the rain and turning down two wrong streets we found it. We immediatly realised that it was a very local place as all were German speaking and seemed to know each other. Therefore the owner had a little fun with us first. We sat down and decided to try Cheese Fondue!! We couldn't quite finish it as it was rich and filling. When we left Rak got her coat stuck yet again, this time to the chair. However this allowed the owner, who had been great to us all night to come over and wish us farewell, shaking our hands and being jolly!!!
We headed back to the hotel and chatted to Ursula about what we had done today and Swiss cuisine. It was back to our room to pack for our trip tomorrow and then to bed.
