Adventure Day!
Today we rented a dinghy for half a day. There are 2 smaller islands off of Hayman island that you could ride the dinghy to as well as a sandbar. One of the islands were filled with snorkelers so we avoided that island and headed toward the other island then later ventured out to the sandbar. It’s an amazing feeling knowing that you are the only live people on an entire island – albeit a small one. You want to sit there all day and never leave. But our time was short and we only had a half-day on the dinghy so we set off to the sandbar in the middle of the ocean. (The worst feeling is the one you get when you stand up suddenly and think you are going to capsize the dinghy, then drop so abruptly you bruise your bum – ouch!)
On the way to the Hayman yesterday we saw people walking in the middle of the ocean – it was a weird sight! But we figured out today that they were walking on the sandbar. We headed over there, anchored and started snorkeling. The water was a bit murky here but boy did we see turtles! A few turtles call this sandbar home and we had a great time finding and following them, dodging jellyfish along the way. The jellies seemed harmless here, but knowing that some can kill you is a bit frightening. Dallas got stung by a jellyfish once while in the Bahamas and he didn’t want to relive that experience. We got a lot of great pictures today, some of our favorite photos of the entire journey. These are the ones that at one glance capture the heart of our trip – pure beauty.
We had dinner at La Trattoria, the Hayman’s Italian restaurant. They had a cute band playing. The restaurants here are themed and decorated so well they look like they belong in Disneyland, I guess that’s my way of saying it’s all well done. When you are in a hotel like this and you don’t have a refrigerator to put in leftovers I wonder why they give you so much food?!?
