Funny Sayings

2005-08-01, Njoro, Kenya

Kenyans say the darnest things when they talk in English. Here are my favorite:

1. "Fine" in response to Hello.
2. "I take chicken" when wanting to say what they want to eat.
3. "Full stop" instead of period (what you see at the end of a sentence).
4. "You've grown" when saying you've gained weight.
5. "You've been lost" when saying that they haven't seen a person in a long time.
6. Never say goodbye, always see you later.
7. "You look smart" instead of saying you look nice.
8. Flat is an apartment.
9. Toliet is the bathroom.

A lot of these are because of language changes and cultural differences. I'm not really an expert on the culture to say for sure why they say these things. They're just funny because I've never heard them before.
