Tokyo Strikes Again

2005-07-28, Tokyo, Japan

As you might have heard, Tokyo has been rocked by two large earthquakes recently. The first occurred last Saturday. Walking in the skyscraper district, everything started shaking, a parked truck squeaked side to side like an over excited couple were in the back, all of the buildings were jumping around like a “House of Pain” song. The second happened today when we were browsing through books on the seventh floor of Takashimaya Bookstore. The whole building just started trembling and we thought we were done for. Just as we were expecting books to come flying off the wall and isles to start toppling over, it subsided.

After waiting for an hour for the trains to start running, we squished onto the carriage, trying not to think about what our place might look like upon our return. I don’t know if words can describe the damage the earthquake caused. I think you’ll get a better idea if you look at the pictures.
