July 19, 2005 – Monclova, Mexico
-Today has been the hardest so far, I, along with others, threw a few hundred more bricks and also shoveled a lot. For the majority of the day I worked mixing cement and was constantly lifting 70+ lb buckets for a couple hours at a time. We have been using a lot of cement and mortar. We also worked longer today than normal because hurricane Emily might role in tomorrow and cut our work time short. She is expected to blow in tomorrow around 7 or 8 in the morning I think, we’ll see. After all the hard work we went out to dinner, ate some good ice cream, and then swam for a while. The whole evening has been very fun. I think I’m starting to break out of my skin a little as well, making every day a little better. I’m starting to get to know everyone better so saying goodbye will be harder than I though. Spencer and I are continuing to work well together and are starting to bond more. He’s a really good guy and it’s definitely going to suck saying goodbye to him. Oh, while we were eating ice cream we say a couple of monkeys and black bears that were cages up in a field for a circus that was in town. I feel bad for the animals though. I swear I’m turning soft or something but I’m starting to feel more and more compassion. I almost forgot, I burned myself today on the cement mixer while trying to fix the belt. It’s a nice burn and it’s something I can remember Mexico by. I’m out. (10:50)
