Today we were up and ready early so that we could make the bus to Toldeo. The ride was short because the city is only about 45 minutes north of Madrid. We circled the city and stopped to take a picture of the view. Absolutely gorgeous because it is on a hill surrounded by a river. It looks like something out of a fairytale with the huge cathedral in the middle of the city and huge manors and caste-like buildings all around.
We walked through the streets for 9 hours. We went through all kinds of churchs, museums, and shops. The city has Christian, Jewish, and Moorish influences because it ws held by all three groups at one time or another. This makes for a very interesting city. I got to see all kinds of artwork, went into a synagogue, saw the burial place of El Greco a famous Greek painter who lived in Spain, and bought my mom the perfect present. (You are going to flip when you see it!) The best part of today was going into one of the smaller cathedrals. We arrived jsut as a wedding was about to start. We got to see all the people arrive dressed to the nines. They do things different over here. People actually care what they look like and dress for the occassion. The only bad thing about the trip was we didnīt stop to go to the bathroom so we had to venture off by ourselves to do that. This means that you have to buy a drink from a bar to use the restroom because they are no public bathrooms. In the pst few weeks, I have had a lot of Cokes and ice cream cones. Also it was extremely hot and I think I bought about six cold drinks throughout the day to keep cool and hydrated.
The bus ride home was short but I still fell asleep because I didnīt get my siesta today. Dinner was wonderful because we had pizza!! That gets everyone excited when we have something we know. Afterwards, Lindsey and I walked to the store to buy some snacks and water for the long train ride tomorrow. Then I wrote some emails and packed. Early to bed!!!
