Trip to Havi on the upper road from Kona,
Hi all, I went with friend d. to havi yesterday via the upper road offering sweeping vistas and a great feeling of expansivness. there were plenty of clouds dancing around in the windy sky. some ofthem blanketing mountians and low enough to make mini cloud belts around the car as we drove. the light in the far north ofthe island sparkles and saturates everything with rich colors not at all likethe light along the kona coast where the volcanic sulfer emssions waft in with the prevailing winds which causes a yellow haze to settle over the area. it was nice to get out of the "vog" (Volcanic smog) belt. The other wonderful thing about being in the far north is that the development craze has not hit there, making it a peaceful place pass the day with out the constant bang, bang, bang of heavy machines widening some road to make room for more cars or tearing trees out of a lot to put in lawns and vacation rentals or investment property, take your pick. I come off as bitter i suppose. please forgive. it is only momentary. OK back to beautiful havi. Havi town has a single row of businesses along the main road running through town. there are curios, restaurants and the like. we found a new shop, a tea enthusiast with a chinese medicine practice set in a very beatifully handled setting. here there is alsoa gret little hotelthe name of which escapesmebut i will fill it in here when i can. its acrossthe street fromthe giant banyon tree. about 3 miles further down the road is another little town along the road i love to visit called kapaau which has much the same fare is havi plus a great little used book store. lunch out side behind the bookstore for a real "feel good" meal..... by the by; i'll be heading out toThailand on sept 21..... enjoy the pix. tumbleweed tumbling on
