Day 3 and 4: Boise

Day 3-4 - Boise

Started out early on this sunny clear day by heading down to Anne Morrison Park in Boise by the river. Just had to get a round of disc golf in early before it got too hot! Got there about 9:00 am and the grass was still wet! There was one group ahead of me about two holes, but otherwise very unbusy! This is a huge course, with many drives where you can't see the basket, so I had to use "the force" on a few shots! Overall, did pretty well, just under par I think. By the time I finished up with disc golf, there were some folk drummers chanting out some nice beats. A few day classes with kids were showing up and there was a line to start the course!

Went back to the hotel and hooked up with the rest of the family and we headed out for the Birds of Prey center. This is about 6 miles south of our hotel and up on a hill overlooking Boise. It has a great view and is nice and breezy. It's a world known center for studying these birds and for having breeding for endangered ones. Very interesting place. Saw a
perigrine falcon named Gus close up and spent an hour or so looking at others like a Hoppy Eagle. Very nice staff too. This should be a stop for you if you like birds of prey. Lots of nice artwork and very nice grounds.

From here we broke for lunch. Sharon and the boys decided to hit the water park called Rolling Springs. Kyle and Pete went down the slides, swam in the pools, and went on something called an endless river. They were there for several hours and came back very tired.

Clark headed back to downtown Boise with the bike and the ambitious goal of riding the entire greenway bike trail. This trail is a wonderful example of urban parks that really work. The bikeway runs along the Boise river for roughly 10 miles. Today was 94 degrees hot, so I think there were more people floating down the river in tubes and small rafts than were on the bikeway! I made several stops along the way to stick my legs in the water and just to watch the floaters go by -- they seemed to be having great fun! Spent the next two hours riding a good deal of the bikeway. Had a very good time of it. Rode all the way back to the hotel from the park which took 45 minutes -- hit the pool immediately.

After dinner we went to visit the Anne Frank Human Rights Memorial, which is near the greenway. This is a great place to stop and ponder her story and the struggles of so many others who are deprived of basic rights. A wall of relevant quotes surround a nice garden and waterfall and pond area. It is very nicely done and we all really enjoyed our time here.

By now it was dark, so we went back to the hotel for relaxation.
