Last night I slept horribly. I went to bed rather late (as usual I underestimated the time it would take me to pack), couldn´t fall asleep because of the screaming neighbours and then woke up every half hour because of the storm. It was right above us and the tho}under was incredibly loud. I kept wondering whether the plane would leave at all - I should have known better and called the airport. Finally at 5am the alarm rang, and a few minutes later we were on our way to the airport.
When we arrived, we were told that the flight cot cancelled - apparently the machine didn´t fly in the day before bcause of the fog, which by the way they could have told us before we arrived for the 7am flight), and that they put us on the machine at 4 pm instead. What they didn´t tell us was that we were entitled to a free breakfast and a hotel voucher. So we spent 9 extra hourse on the airport. And Montevideo´s is one of the smallest airports I´ve ever seen.
Later we met a German woman, who was on the same flight and got offered a hotel voucher. Scandal! And we´ve been killing time when we could have been sleeping - after 3 hours sleep and 10 hours waiting, we were both so thrashed, that we would have started crying at the smallest incident. (Then again, unlike the German lady we received our luggage in Rio de Janeiro - so I guess we´re even.)
Finally we boarded the plane - the flight to Sao Paolo was good. We had to kill some more time (by then we were really good at that), and finally we were on our way to Rio. Our tour operator was supposed to pick us up, but as we were late, he wasn´t htere any more. Instead we went with the airport shuttle. Flying over Rio we had the first impression of how huge the city is, but driving through made that even clearer.
At the hostel we found out that the double room we booked meant we had to share one big beg. But by that time we were well beyond tired and just took the rook. Finally, 15 hours after we left our house in Montevideo, we were in Rio.
