Our trip to Plzen consisted of beer, food and more beer.
We satyed at a nice hotel that was situated right above this really famous restaurant. Our first night in town we had a big Czech diiner there and checked out all the pictures of famous former diners (including former Czech rep. President Vaclav Havel)
Plzen, of course, is home to the Pilsner Urquell brewery as well as Beer museum and our full day was spent wandering the halls of both these fine establishments. The museum was cool and basically showed the history of beer production in the town. It also had a few mock 19th and early 20th century bars, a coaster collection and lovely bar which we were forced to seek cover in when we realized it had started to rain, just as we were going to leave (damn) ... Next, we headed to the brewery, and unfortunately got there a bit early for the tour so again we were forced to the bar ... the tour itself was very neat. We watched some hilarious video on the glories of Pilsner Urqeull, and wandered through the brewery itself stopping to taste the unfilterd, unpasteurized brew (sounds gross, but is great) ... after the tour we wandered the gift shop and grabbed a late lunch at the Brewery restaurant ... The lovely last day in the Czech Republic was capped off with a lovely dinner at a trendy Plzen restaurant, and of course and pint of beer :)
