This journal is speeding to a close, and we chose to speed out of Hinterzarten in light of yet another dark and rainy day. Better to leave the unfavorable weather behind and take our chances on Zurich, our final destination on the continent this trip. Nothing much to remark on beyond the uniformly beautiful Black Forest area of southwest Germany. It must truly be spectacular in the sunshine, and we did have a taste of nice weather last Sunday on our trip to Lake Constance.
We finally found the Møvenpick hotel near the airport after much meandering due to the inaccurate Expedia.com map we relied on. It’s the most modern hotel we’ve yet encountered – not as elegant as the Hotel Zempinski in Berlin, but this one has hardwood floors, great furniture and an exercise cycle in the room! We haven’t used it. Also, the hotel's restaurant serves Appenzeller cuisine, and the food and excellent Swiss service were among the best on the entire trip.
After a trip to the airport to turn in our rental car and reserve a couple seats on Sunday’s connecting flight to Brussels, we headed back to the hotel for journal wrapping, napping and Tour de France watching on EuroSport TV. We’ll have to catch the final stages of the Tour on ESPN back in good ole Honolulu. We’re ready to fly home with tons of memories of “France-Germany ‘05” to recall and relate to friends and family – edited down, of course.
So to our faithful readers, whoever you are, thanks for checking in and allowing us to share our experiences -- all good, we’ve decided, right down to the stolen digital camera (we have more and better photos taken with the new camera) and the Locked-in-the-Laundry incident (we have a story that undoubtedly will expand and improve over the years).
For now, Au Revoir, Auf Wiedersehen and Alooooo-HA!
