" Selamat Datang " means Warmest Welcome, is the greeting you received from the villages once you reached the island, Pangkil Island. The villages are very friendly, when you walk around the island you will invite a lot of staring and smiling from the villagers out of curiosity.

I reached this island by their wooden boat, called pong-pong, this typical boat is used for fishing as well as for their daily transportation to and fro from the island to Bintan. The boat is small and comfortable but....... you must bear the engine noise...... its very loud! The journey to the island took 40 min. The seawater is very clear, that impress me alot and the scenery is very nice.

Most of the houses here were wooden and some were built with stilts near the seaside. But some houses were upgraded to concrete housing. There is NO transportation available on this island; you need to walk from one place to another, unless you bring your own bicycle. There are a few bicycles here and only 2 or 3 motorbike which belong to the villagers, and one of it belong to the island headmen call " Penghulu ".
