This is the best story yet and I havenīt even written it...so here goes!
So the last story I told you guys that we were staying at the Plaza....well what I forgot to mention was that the plaza was just a square in the middle of town and that I would be on a nice fluffy grass bed for the night! Donīt be mad or concerned b-c obviously I survived the night....well this morning at around 6 am the sprinklers decided to go off and give the gang a little wake up call. Down right hilarious watching people just passed out getting soaked....I donīt think i have ever moved that quickly in my whole life.....all I heard was Eve say ĻOH S**T!!Ļ and I was on the move! So, now that I was awake I went for a stroll on the vacant streets of Pamplona just to soak it all in....gorgeous little mission churches tucked in corners and I actually passed by a nun....got her in a picture but she doesnīt know that! Anyway, after that we all kind of wanted to shower, so Jens and myself headed off to find the public showers....which we never found, but we did find the line for bull fighting tickets at around 7:45 and decided lets do that...so I stood in line while she went to retrieve everyone....tickets didnīt go on sale until 10! We were pretty excited once we got the tickets, but it was almost 11:30 before we actually got done and the festival kicked off at high noon.
I promise I have never seen so many people dressed in red and white in all my life.... very easy to get confused when travelling with a big crowd. I canīt even explain how many people were in front of city hall but I was one of them and Iīve got pics to prove it. We were all soaked with champagne..Iīm talking thousands of bottles of champagne being popped all over the place....and one guy didnīt think I was dirty enough soooo he poured sangria down my jacket....I couldnīt have been happier!! hahaha....people were pushing and jumping and chanting in spanish, fireworks going off and tons of glass all over the ground (thank God no one fell!)....shear craziness that canīt really be explained! All I know is that it was the most high energy 35 minutes of my life and I survived!!
Once that portion of the openning cerimony was finished we headed back and just followed the band out and danced in the streets like crazy people and the folks that were lucky enough to have a balcony were tossing large masses of water on everyone below!! There was just no chance of making out with out being soaked in some kind of liquid!!
We all purused the streets for a while and danced with everyone just having a amazing time....which wore me out b-c I didnīt exactly get the best sleep on the grass the night before... I eventually made it to a beautiful park on the out skirts of town and took a siesta....yes in the grass again! Mary (40 something woman from San Antonio we ran into) and I actually had a very drunk Pamplonian attack us with grass for about 5 minutes...he wanted us to join in the fun...he wasnīt having us sleep for anything until his friend intervened.
Then there is the bull fight on horse back! I walked to the arena from the park and came up on the mastodors (sp?) running and exercising the horses that were going to be used. They were beautiful horses!! I found the gang in the arena and set down to watch a very disturbing but exciting display of killing a bull...actually i watched 3 kills and then I left. It was kind of nerve racking for me so I just left to come tell my story of the day. Tomorrowīs story should be just as good if not better b-c the bulls run at 8 am sharp and Iīm waking up at 5:30 hopefully to get my spot to take some pictures. Wish me luck and pray that none of my comrades that are running donīt get hurt!! Good times in Pamplona!! 599,000 drunks and me the sober one!
