Independence Day was celebrated in a most atypical way in our experience, and although it may not exactly have been like winter, it wasn't the perfect weather we had yesterday either. The tell-tale signs of approaching storm were seen in the early-morning thunderheads. By the time we had reached the autobahn to head north, the temperature had fallen 10 degrees centigrade (somewhere around 15+ F) and it began to rain hard. For the second straight day, our plans changed drastically and we shortened the drive, spending most of the time returning to Hinterzarten on secondary roads through the low mountains.
As with yesterday, we were totally impressed by the “tidy” appearance of this part of Germany. We’re looking forward to the long drive to Berlin, starting early tomorrow.
