Fieredag!

2005-06-22, Luxembourg, Luxembourg

Luxembourg is a city that knows how to party. You could never see an event like this in the US. It looked to us like the whole country (all 350,000 of them) turned out for this one. The streets were packed and every street corner had a DJentertainer and beer stands lined the streets. At around 9:30 PM the Grand Duke and family proceeded out of the Palace (we were there watching... beers in hand) and down to the main square. Then began the parade of torches. Dozens of groups proceeded down the street into the Square past the royal family doing whatever they were representing, from cub scouts to marching bands, with a large portion of the group carrying torches. Then at the stroke of midnight (Duke`s Birthday) they had an amazing firework display. Now I think that as Americans, we take our fireworks pretty seriously, but I have to say that we were absolutely schooled by a country smaller than Rhode Island! A wild night. Definitely well worth the extended stay. We highly recommend anyone who`s in Europe this time next year stop by. You won`t be disappointed!

On to Heidelberg! (one of these days we`ll find a spot that will let us upload more pictures and go wild. We have tons, but can` upload them.)

Next entry: Impressive castle up close. but...
