Aside from the nastiest hostel in the world, our stay in Koln was quite nice. The hostel was another story. When we got there, the windows in our room were closed (no AC) and the handles were broken. Gordon got out his swiss army knife and went into the lounge and removed the handle from the lounge window just to get some air circulation. It was very dirty and disgusting (if you want to know _how_ disgusting, ask us sometime. It is too bad to put in writing...) Gordon woke up at around 4:30AM to hear a very drunk German man (obviously accented) screaming at the hostel in English. In retrospect, it was pretty funny, but we were not amused at the time. Perhaps opening the window was a mistake. Once we got our money back for the second night and booked our trip out, the day started looking up, though. First we toured-climbed Kolner Dom. The largest cathedral in the world. According to Becky, Notre Dame was absolutely dwarfed by this beast. We tried to get pictures, but couldn`t fit it in the view. We climbed the 500 odd spiral steps up the bell tower and got an amazing view of the city (it was a gorgeous day too). Only a little bit dizzy, we walked on down to the Rhine river and had a pretzel the size of our heads. Then we wandered down to the Chocolate museum (Becky's favorite). We then wandered back up to the train station and headed for Luxembourg. Not a bad day after all.
