So we left Morocco and its gastronmic insults behind and returned to Spain. We headed to Seville where we arrived somewhat late but managed to find a place which I bargained our room price down accidently. Basically she said 55 euros, to which I replied "see ya", and then she lowered it till we could afford to sleep there (45 euros). We decided to stay two nights.
We spent the next morning visiting the Alcazar, which was the palace/fortress of the local royalty. Very different palace from the Palazzo Real in Madrid. Lots of Moorish influences were evident. Plus, the place was basically a massive garden with some rooms added. I think that they make so much outside because it gets way too hot in this country. Let me provide you with an example of how hot it is. After the Alcazar we decided to (Scott is now on the phone trying to give someone english directions to our hostel, so i will continue the story)...basically it was sooo hot we tried to have a picnic in the park but after 15 minutes of sitting in the shade we were officially sweaty beasts and i wanted to bathe in a giant pool of ice cream, but had to settle for a McDonald´s cone (mmmm ice cream). (k Scott´s off the phone now so I´ll let him take over) ...
anyway, we decided to sample a little authentic spanish Ole at night, so we went to a Flamenco show. It was really something else. There is a guy playing Spanish guitar and occasionally calling out ole. There´s also a woman who sing long loud high pitched notes in Spanish. She also does occasional dance moves, but just the basics. Finally, there is the male dancer, about whom this story is titled. He basically turns his lower body into a pair of drumsticks. He kicks, he stamps, he leaps, and he does it at a rate of about 10 stomps/second. The other thing he does is make me laugh. Why do I laugh? Because of the facial expression while he dances. Basically, it appears to be a mix between constipation and anguish. It may have something to do with his legs moving so fast, or maybe he´s just really warm in his dance costume (one piece unitard). Anyways, it was an experience to be sure. Danielle really loved it. I thought it was hilarious. We both have taken something special from the night.
So, tomorrow we take a train to Granada...
