After talking and dreaming about going to Paris, we finally had the chance to go there. I know all the travel books and people here say it’s overrated and so expensive, but I still think it’s a great place to visit. There was just so much to see and do and eat!!! I think this is one of those cities I can really go back and visit.
We visited all the usual tourist places, the Louvre with the Mona Lisa – it was actually much bigger than I thought it would be. Everyone bitches about how small it really is in real life, but it seemed to me like a reasonable size?? The Eiffel tower was pretty nice, so bloody high I tell you!! You don’t really realise until you’re up there looking down, woah what a rush. Though the one turn off was definitely the long wait to go up and down the tower.
Visited the Moulin Rouge, but didn’t see the show cuz there was so many bad reviews on how much of a tourist trap it was. Then there was Le Sacre Cour, very pretty church perched up on a hill, very beautiful indeed. But we got conned 2 euros by the touts outside, so be very careful there. Notre Dame was fantastic, you need to climb the stairs and go right to the top. It’s a great view and also a great experience. The good thing about it is that they control the number of people up there at one time, so it doesn’t feel crowded like all the other attractions.
The best tourist place we visited was definitely Musee d’Orsay. I absolutely loved it! There were so many pieces of Monet, Renoir, Van Gogh, and Sisley paintings. This place I would say is one of the best in the world, though I might be a bit biased as I love impressionist art, hehe! It’s much better than the Louvre.
Last place we visited was Versailles, it was very beautiful but so overcrowded I don’t think we enjoyed it much at all. We were probably fighting crowds in the thousands and im not kidding there. You just walk at a snail pace from room to room and you feel like a bloody sardine. I would say either go early or late in the day, or maybe off season. I can’t imagine going there during summer, I think I would go insane from the crowds!
One piece of advice for those going to Paris, make sure you buy the museum pass. You don’t have to wait in line and it’s just the best thing ever! Especially for Musee d’Orsay and the Louvre, they have separate lines for people with museum passes and those who need to buy tickets. Oh by the way, eat as much as possible in Paris, the food is so good, though probably not that great for your heart. Eheheh all that frois gras and pate we ate couldn’t have been great. The best thing is waking up early in the morning and running down to the boulangerie to buy a baguette to eat for breakfast, sigh, can’t wait till my next Paris trip!
