April 14-15, The Coromandel Peninsula stayed at the Cat’s Pajamas in Whitianga near the ferry landing. Two guys that were also guests at the backpacker gave me a fresh fish. It was delicious and supplied me dinner for the next two nights. I hiked to Cathedral Cove a beautiful beach with incredible limestone rock formations and islands and crystal clear water and white sand beaches. I could have spent a week here but there was lots more to explore… next I hiked to Hahei beach another beautiful beach with pink sand from all of the crushed scallop shells from there I took a bus to Hot Water Beach. This beach has a hot spring that comes up under the sand so you can dig your own hot tubs in the sand next to the cold ocean. What a great experience and a wonderful way to relax the muscles from the hikes and the effort of digging my hole in the sand. I could absolutely spend more time in the Coromandel as I missed several things I wanted to do, the owner of my backpacker takes guests for half-hour scenic flights for only $22 NZ less than $11 US. I also wanted to do kayaking around all of the islands in the area but they didn’t have enough people to make the trip.
