Wow. I never thought I was capable of something like this. We are in Cinque Terre, which is an area of 5 villages on the mediterrean coast. We have an apartment for the weekend in Monterroso, the first village. There are hiking trails that connect all of the villages. This morning we got up and met at 8am and hiked from Monterroso to Verezza (sp?) it was INCREDIBLY difficult. The trails were all steep stairs, or narrow rocky trails with steep dropoffs/cliffs. IT was amazing. The view was priceless. And we are tired. The whole group hiked the first trail then we stopped for lunch at the first town. Seven of us and our professor decided to hike the next trail, which was more difficult. It even prettier than the first trail! That brought us to the village of Corniglia.
What a day! Absolutely one of the most beautiful places on earth. The trails were high up on the hills overlooking the sea, with olive groves, lemon groves, and grapes all growing nearby. I cannot describe it!
More to come later.
Ciao
Cheryl
