Hope you all had a good Christmas!

Had a great time travelling from Perth to Sydney. Last Tuesday, we left Melbourne for Sydney stopping overnight in Canberra.

We were stopped by some stupid Scottish policeman on the way to Canberra for going 7Ks too fast. Elvira got a ticket for $130 but don't think she'll be paying it. Stayed just outside Canberra city on a campsite and left early the next morning without paying.

Drove round the city a couple of times and then headed to Parliament House. Did a guided tour which was pretty cool and saw the red and green rooms or rather pink and peppermint after the Eucalyptus leaves and flowers respectively. Got the lift to the roof for nice views of the city. On the way out of the city, we were stopped again by the police for driving too slow. Well, we did want to get a picture of the 143 metre high water jet. Elvira stopped the car in the middle of the 3 lane street which was clever. Drove onto the curb and just when Elvira was about to show them her licence, they decided it was not necessary. They then proceeded to get a camera and take a photo of the car because it's so cool. Even let us sit on the police motorbike for photos. What funny guys!! Everyone was really chilled out in Canberra and all a bit mad.

Upon arriving in Coogee, Sydney, ELvira and I didn't have accommodation for the night but it would be OK the following night. 30 minutes later the owner of the house decided I couldn't sleep on the floor so I would be homeless for Christmas. Nice! Elvira and I slept on the floor of a friends flat before going to Bondi with the others for a night out. What a complete and utter dump that place is. It's like Benidorm, Spain for a slightly older crowd. Dirty, smelly and full of drunken idiots. And that's official: put it in your diaries - Bondi is an overated piece of turd, so there!

Anyway, after spending the following day speechless and lost trying to find accomodation, I found a place in Coogee for $31 a night. When I went to book in, found out it was only $31 if i stayed for 11 days otherwise it would be $49. Rip off! Coogee is a dump too! Have no travellers heard of Manly? Was saved at the last minute and stayed in the city with a few of the others we travelled with for a night.

Got a call from Nobbi who saved my Christmas by saying I could stay at his the following day. What a relief! So angry though at the whole previous situation that I didn't spend Christmas Eve or the Day with my travelling buddies. Left New Zealand for Perth to travel back to Sydney to spend Christmas with friends I met in Darwin after being guaranteed a place to stay [deep breath], and it didn't even happen.

Had a brilliant Christmas Day though as Nobbi and his housemates had a party with a nice crowd of people including 8 Korean people and Lucy (No Si Eun) from Korea who I met in Perth last April. Was really good and made my day! Had loads of really nice food and I made roast spuds and vodka jelly which didn't set.

Went to Kings Cross yesterday and met up with Janessa, Ian and Beth.
The hostels there are fully booked out too! Aaaaaahhhh!

So I'm currently looking at flights to leave Sydney for Adelaide ASAP as the accomodation situation is stressing me out. May even leave Sydney before New Year depending on available flights and costs. They don't seem to be that cheap! Want to get a lift up to Darwin via Coober Pedy, Alice Springs, Uluru-Kata Tjuta NP and Kings Canyon. Darwin will then be my last stop before Asia although due to the terrible disaster that struck on Boxing Day, I may not be able to travel there. Very very sad and so many people lost.

Want to put photos online but they've got all sorts of strange security software on this PC in an Asian language so I cannot understand a thing. Will have to try and find another place.

Next entry: New Year in Adelaide
