Had a cool week driving from Perth to Adelaide.
Had a day in Margaret River last Thursday driving to many of the Wineries to do a bit of wine tasting. Was really funny as we started as 10am and tried every single wine on the sample menu. Started to get a bit merry and then went to a chocolate factory and stuffed loads of the free chocolate down our throats. After that did some more wine tasting before heading to a cheese factory.
We basically polished off all the cheese on offer saying 'Um, that's really nice' and 'Wow, that's really tasty' whilst putting as much cheese on the tooth picks as possible. Then we did it again later in another cheese place. Hillarious! And, the smoked and chilli cheese were the nicest. Was not too keen on the feta; that was a bit dry hehe.
Climbed the 61m high Gloucester Tree once again in Pemberton but this time at record speed. Was still nervous and having a few palpitations but made it OK. Only Mignon and Johnny managed to climb it also as the others were too scared.
Crossed the Nullarbor and forgot how dull it was. Luckily, I was sat in the back of the 4WD camper van so slept through most of it, although it did take 2 days to cross the thing. Didn't help that we ran out of petrol 5Ks from a petrol station. We stopped one of the few passing cars and asked them to pass a message on to Elvira who was at the petrol station so they came back with some diesel for us.
Later one evening, we(the 4WD) bombed along a dirt track at 110Kph and Elvira's car managed to get a puncture so we camped at a roadhouse for $8 between all 9 of us. Went to the bar there and had a few beers. As I was first to the bar, they gave me a proper (European) pint glass with a bicycle bell attached to the handle to ring when I wanted another beer. The SA pints are less than Europe and the rest of Oz.
Some drunk policeman was chatting to us and gave us some stickers to put on cars. They are used when a vehicle should not be driven but he wrote 'VOID' over 2 of them but was too drunk to notice me slipping the 3rd one into my pocket. All we have to do now is try and find someone we don't like and stick it on their car haha.
The last night, a guy from a roadhouse let us camp on his property for free and the others did drinking games of 1 shot of beer every minute for 100 minutes. I thought that would be a bad idea and the others gave up after 50 shots as they felt ill.
Arrived in Adelaide yesterday in a really nice hostel. We had a free BBQ last night with loads of boneless chicken, sausages, potatoes, salad etc. There was so much left over, I am making spicy chicken nachos tonight with homemade guacamole and salsa. Tasty! Went out last night for a few drinks, not getting to bed until 3am. Feeling fine this morning and going to the brilliant Adelaide fruit and veg market.
