New number in Wellies
Arrived in Wellington 2 hours ago and feel a bit lost and confused and.....well strange.
Flight was OK except the drugs (Rescue Remedy - yes I found it here and some other herbal tablets from the pharmacy) didn't kick in straight away so I was convinced the plane was going to crash and panicked a bit. Knocked back a Gin and Tonic over the course of the flight so was way up in the clouds (well just above them if speaking literally).
Not much to see on the way apart from water, oh, and snow on mountains when land finally came into view. And then more water. I was thinking that I might have been on some highly advanced Boeing Seaplane when coming into land as we were almost skimming off the water before a runway appeared.
My first impressions of Wellington were, "OK where are the buildings?" followed by "Oh there they are and is that smog or just very low grey mucky clouds?". Still don't know the answer but it smells kind of nice. Hostel is weird and very small room but if I stay I will be moved to another one tomorrow. Haven't met anyone yet and I could not get a mobile signal with Virgin so went for walkabout to find the options: Vodafone, Vodafone, Vodafone and Vodafone - fantastic! $35 for a SIM with only $5 credit and an exra $10 from filling in some stupid (well, I haven't look at it yet but that's the word that entered my head) survey. Almost forgot, my NZ number is
+64**********. I presume I have to remove the initial zero like all other countries.
Other strange things here are buses that run from overhead cables like trams but like a bus thing.
Weather's not too cold! Hope I meet some cool people in the hostel.
I miss Oz and my friends there but have only been away less than a day so can't complain.
Didn't get to bed until 4am this morning so am feeling a bit tired and hungry. By the way, I am another 2 hours ahead of Sydney here so 13 hours to Europe I think or is it 12. Not quite with it.
