Today I have had my first solo adventure to Tiahuanaco which is an hour and a half away on the bus (but only costs a dollar each way, bargain!) and is the ruins of a pre-inca civilisation, but I was too tight to pay for a guide as I am already over budget and it was quite nice wandering around, even though I didnīt know anything about what I was looking at, and I felt proud of myself that Iīd got a bus into the middle of nowhere on my own for the first time (and back!). I am going to have a read about it on the internet for (virtually) free. Given that its a Unesco world heritage site and one of the most popular day trips from La Paz I was pretty surprised that there werenīt more tourists there! Most of the ones that were there were Bolivian. In my guide book it said it was $2 but its obviously gone up to $10 (which is reeally expensive in Bolivia..probably only for foreigners) and they wouldnt accept Bolivianos, which nearly put an end to my adventure but luckily I had a few in my money belt... oh but what a palaver... they didnīt like my $10 bill cos it had a pink smudge on it, and then they didnīt have change for a $20! Got there in the end tho after Iīd confused everybody.
I only got a little bit lost coming home as I got off the bus too early and then couldnīt work out where I was but reckoned downhill always works, and it did! right to my hostel, couldnīt have planned it better if Iīd tried!I saw a little boy chasing a dog with a stick and hitting it really hard which upset me this morning. Iīm sure more interesting things happened but Iīve forgotten, but iīll let you know when I remember.
So bye for now then, Kirsty PS Most expensive things in Bolivia seem to be postage and chocolate. Everything else is dirt cheap.
