We are on the bus again at 8:30 am headed to Greymouth. We are going there to get on the Trans Alpine train which takes us back to Christchurch.
The past two nights we spent in Fox Glacier at the Ivory Towers Lodge. It was a cute backpacker’s place where everyone cooks for themselves and shares the kitchen. At night we played Monopoly and watched some New Zealand (Kiwi-made) film called Scarfies. Really sick humor about college kids that find a lot of pot in their basement, sell it, and then have to deal with the real owner.
When we first got to Fox Glacier we rented mountain bikes for $4 per hour and biked to a lake where you can see the mountains reflect in the water. We decided to run around the lake instead of taking an hour and a half to walk it. We rode back and just took in the beautiful scenery and I mood at all the cows.
Yesterday we had a beautiful day to hike the Fox Glacier. We started at 9:30 am and went until 4 pm. Our guide Cornelia told us about the glacier and glaciology along the way. We took a lot of pictures on the glacier and in the crevasses. It was sunny so it wasn’t that cold. I just had cargo pants and a long sleeve T-shirt most of the time. We also had to wear hiking boots with crampons (spikes you attach to the bottom to grip the ice).
We are now passing by a river that must come from the glacier because it has an icy-blue color, just like the color of Hypnotic.
